Walter Williams on The Financial Mess
Walter Williams, a distinguished professor of economics at George Mason University, weighs in on the current financial mess created by Congress:
I say they are all purposely ignorant, as well as stupid and venal (willing to sell one's influence, especially for a bribe).
The current recession and financial crisis was caused by too much government involvement in the markets. It was directly caused by Congress and the White House.
And the Congress and White House are not yet finished with the taxpayers.
"News media people, often plagued with little understanding, fail miserably in their duty to inform the public. This is particularly evident in their reporting on the current financial meltdown, suggesting it was caused by deregulation and free markets.Read the rest of the column by Walter Williams here.
Professor David Henderson, research fellow at Stanford's Hoover Institution, writes about regulation in "Are We Ailing From Too Much Deregulation?" in Cato Policy Report (November/December 2008).
The Federal Register, which lists new regulations, annually averaged 72,844 pages between 1977 and 1980. During the Reagan years, the average fell to 54,335. During the Bush I years, they rose to 59,527, to 71,590 during the Clinton years and rose to a record of 75,526 during the Bush II years. Employees in government regulatory agencies grew from 146,139 in 1980 to 238,351 in 2007, a 63 percent increase.
In the banking and finance industries, regulatory spending between 1980 and 2007 almost tripled, rising from $725 million to $2.07 billion. So here's my question: What are we to make of congressmen, talking heads and news media people who tell us the financial meltdown is a result of deregulation and free markets? Are they ignorant, stupid or venal?"

Ron Paul Is Right
Check out this video here or see it embedded below.
Texas Rep. Ron Paul:
"We should be doing hardly anything in Washington but politically that is unacceptable. But that's the right thing to do.
Because when you develop a financial bubble and have too much investments and too much debt and too much malinvestment, you have to liquidate it.
In 1921, we had a severe depression. It was over in one year. In the 30's we had another one, but then the government decided to do all these things, bail everybody out (exactly what we're doing now) and it prolonged the correction.
So it's sad, but the whole thing is, is you should let these banks go bankrupt, you should let all the companies go bankrupt, that overextended themselves. The politicians would feel that they're not necessary, and they wouldn't like that so they have to do something. But everything they're doing is wrong so far."
Bill Maher:
"But if that's true, why do so many economists say we should do the opposite?"
Paul:
"Well, you're listening to the wrong economists if you think they're serious.
All Keynesians, Socialists, Welfarists, will say you have to do something. But if you believe in the free market and you understand the business cycle (the business cycle was caused by the Federal Reserve System), you know that you have to get rid of the mistakes that were built in the system.
The real cause was created by the Federal Reserve. And yet very few people are talking about the Federal Reserve."
Maher:
"But isn't the free market what got us into this situation? It must be a hard pill for you to swallow, because I know a free capitalist like yourself, hates socialism. But it's the screwing up of the free market and capitalism that now has brought us socialism."
Paul:
"Yeah, okay, now you've touched on the most critical question ever in dealing with that.
Because in the 30's, they said the same thing... that capitalism and the gold standard caused our problems. But that was an absolute falsehood. It was the Federal Reserve and government intervention that caused it.
Today, we haven't had capitalism. We've had too much regulation, too much spending, too much debt, too much inflation by the Federal Reserve, so we're not even close to capitalism."
Maher:
"But that's in the past. I mean, we're in this fix now. My question to you is: If we did nothing, as you are proposing, or even cut taxes and spending, give me a realistic estimation of what this country would look like in six months, in a year, in five years."
Paul:
"In six months to a year, it would still be tough, but it would be over. But the way we're going now, it's going to last fifteen years. That's where the real problem is.
But the whole thing is, is my argument won't work unless you cut. And I say you have to cut and balance the budget. But we're spending one trillion dollars on overseas maintenance of our empire.
I say: Bring all our troops home, quit spending this money, save hundreds of billions of dollars, cut the deficit, spend some of that money at home, but you can't keep printing money!"
Maher:
"Yeah, I agree with that. If we want to get serious, we have to really get serious. Which would be, I agree, ending our overseas empire. "
CONCERNING THE PROHIBITION OF ILLEGAL DRUGS
Maher:
"Well, in this country, people like pot. And if we ended that prohibition, that would be a giant boon of money."
Paul:
"Okay, I don't like pot. But I hate the drug war so I would repeal all the prohibitions. But I wouldn't even bother taxing it.
I would just say that people have the right in a free country to make important decisions on their own lives. If they want to make mistakes they can. They just can't come crawling to the government to be bailed out or taken care of if they get sick.
But I believe in freedom of choice, in all that we do, as long as the individual never hurts anybody else."
CONCERNING THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AND THEIR SO-CALLED FISCAL CONSERVATIVE APPROACH
Maher:
"Do you guys have any credibility? You're the ones who ran up a couple of wars on the credit card and drug entitlement thing for the Medicare. It seems in my lifetime, Bush, the second Bush, and Reagan - these were the guys who broke the budget. Clinton's the one who left it okay. How did your party get to be the one who's preaching about fiscal conservatism? "
Paul:
"Well, they preached it, they didn't practice it. So they have absolutely no credibility. I hope I have a little bit. But the Democrats haven't been in charge too long yet but they're going to lose credibility if they expand the war. What about sending 17,000 troops into Afghanistan? I mean, that's not the way to have change! I want the troops to all come home. I don't want to expand the war into Afghanistan. So we need to do that or you're going to lose credibility too as all the Democrats will."

Alan Keyes: Stop Obama or U.S. Will Cease To Exist
Alan Keyes, a 2008 presidential candidate who is also a plaintiff in one of the many lawsuits challenging Barack Obama's constitutional eligibility to occupy the Oval Office, charged at a pro-life rally that unless Obama's social and economic policies are stopped, the United States as we know it is over.
Keyes' comments were part of an interview with a reporter from KHAS-TV at a fundraiser for the AAA Crisis Pregnancy Center in Hastings, Nebraska.
"Obama is a radical communist, and I think it is becoming clear. That is what I told people in Illinois and now everybody realizes it's true," said Keyes, who ran unsuccessfully against Obama for the state's open Senate seat in 2004. "He is going to destroy this country, and we are either going to stop him or the United States of America is going to cease to exist."
Keyes also reasserted his belief that unless the question of Obama's eligibility to serve as president is answered definitively, America may face the startling crisis of an executive branch run by a "usurper."
"Is he president of the United States?" Keyes asked the reporter of Obama. "According to the Constitution, in order to be eligible for president you have to be a natural born citizen. He has refused to provide proof."
Where's the proof Barack Obama was born in the U.S. or that he fulfills the "natural-born American" clause in the Constitution? If you still want to see it, join more than 240,000 others and sign up now!
Keyes' comments included harsh criticism of Obama's policies on immigration, abortion, and the mortgage crisis. He concluded the interview by railing against the president's push for hundreds of billions of dollars in government economic stimulus spending.
"We are claiming that a bankrupt government can save a bankrupt banking system," Keyes said. "The fact that we have just elected an individual – who may or may not be qualified – and he presents silly ideas like this and says, 'Let's move forward now,' and we're all acting like the laws of economics have been repealed and we can actually afford to foot the bill with money nobody's got, this is insane.
"It's got to lead to the collapse of our economy," Keyes declared, "and it's going to."
Here is a partial listing and status update for some of the cases over Obama's eligibility:
* New Jersey attorney Mario Apuzzo has filed a case on behalf of Charles Kerchner and others alleging Congress didn't properly ascertain that Obama is qualified to hold the office of president.
* Philip J. Berg, a Pennsylvania Democrat, demanded that the courts verify Obama's original birth certificate and other documents proving his American citizenship. Berg's latest appeal, requesting an injunction to stop the Electoral College from selecting the 44th president, was denied.
* Leo Donofrio of New Jersey filed a lawsuit claiming Obama's dual citizenship disqualified him from serving as president. His case was considered in conference by the U.S. Supreme Court but denied a full hearing.
* Cort Wrotnowski filed suit against Connecticut's secretary of state, making a similar argument to Donofrio. His case was considered in conference by the U.S. Supreme Court, but was denied a full hearing.
* Former presidential candidate Alan Keyes headlines a list of people filing a suit in California, in a case handled by the United States Justice Foundation, that asks the secretary of state to refuse to allow the state's 55 Electoral College votes to be cast in the 2008 presidential election until Obama verifies his eligibility to hold the office. The case is pending, and lawyers are seeking the public's support.
* Chicago attorney Andy Martin sought legal action requiring Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle to release Obama's vital statistics record. The case was dismissed by Hawaii Circuit Court Judge Bert Ayabe.
* Lt. Col. Donald Sullivan sought a temporary restraining order to stop the Electoral College vote in North Carolina until Barack Obama's eligibility could be confirmed, alleging doubt about Obama's citizenship. His case was denied.
* In Ohio, David M. Neal sued to force the secretary of state to request documents from the Federal Elections Commission, the Democratic National Committee, the Ohio Democratic Party and Obama to show the presidential candidate was born in Hawaii. The case was denied.
* In Washington state, Steven Marquis sued the secretary of state seeking a determination on Obama's citizenship. The case was denied.
* In Georgia, Rev. Tom Terry asked the state Supreme Court to authenticate Obama's birth certificate. His request for an injunction against Georgia's secretary of state was denied by Georgia Superior Court Judge Jerry W. Baxter.
* California attorney Orly Taitz has brought a case, Lightfoot vs. Bowen, on behalf of Gail Lightfoot, the vice presidential candidate on the ballot with Ron Paul, four electors and two registered voters.
WND senior reporter Jerome Corsi had gone to both Kenya and Hawaii prior to the election to investigate issues surrounding Obama's birth. But his research and discoveries only raised more questions.
The governor's office in Hawaii said there is a valid certificate but rejected requests for access and left ambiguous its origin: Does the certificate on file with the Department of Health indicate a Hawaii birth or was it generated after the Obama family registered a Kenyan birth in Hawaii, which the state's procedures allowed at the time?

Obama: The Public Will Have 5 Days To View Bills
"When there's a bill that ends up on my desk as President, you, the public, will have five days to look online to find out what's in it before I sign it, so that you know what your government's doing." - Barack Obama
You don't say! You're not a liar, Mr. President, are you? My favorite part is how you rushed it through so that even the people voting on it didn't have time to read it, much less, us, the public. Then, you delayed signing the dang thing for four days. What's up with that? Check out the video here.

Are You a Republican or a Democrat?
The answer can be found by posing the following question:You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, an Islamic Terrorist with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, praises Allah, raises the knife, and charges at you. You are carrying a Glock 35, cal. 45 ACP, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family.
What do you do?
Democrat's Answer:
- Well, that's not enough information to answer the question!
- Does the man look poor or oppressed?
- Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?
- Could we run away?
- What does my wife think? What about the kids?
- Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?
- What does the law say about this situation?
- Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it?
- Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children?
- Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?
- If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he is stabbing me?
- Should I call 9-1-1?
- Why is this street so deserted?
- We need to raise taxes, have paint and weed day and make this a happier, healthier street - that would discourage such behavior.
- This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for few days and try to come to a consensus.

The Fannie Mae / Freddie Mac Scam
Though the Democrats are to blame, they will not be held accountable.
Check out this video of Democrats covering up the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac scam that helped cause our current economic crisis. I watched the video yesterday for the first time and was shocked at what I heard.
A quote from President Clinton at the end of this video:
"I think the responsibility that the Democrats have may rest more in resisting any efforts by the Republicans in the Congress, or by me when I was President, to put some standards and tighten up a little on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac."

Barack Hussein Obama is a Liar
I watched Obama's first prime time press conference. I wondered why he would feel the need to do this, except he is panicking about the stimulus package, and the fact that now only 37 percent of the American people support it, down from 63 percent. The more Obama spoke, the more I thought to myself, "This guy is a liar."
Of course, having kept up during the presidential campaign, I already knew that. But to watch Obama say the things he said during his press conference, I could not fathom how someone could blatantly lie like this. Here's a look at some of what Obama said Monday night:
OBAMA: "We have inherited the most profound economic emergency since the Great Depression."
FACT: This is a scare tactic used on a regular basis by most Democrats. The unemployment figures have not reached the levels of the early 1980s, let alone the 1930s. Right now, unemployment is 7.2 percent. In 1982, during the Carter years, the jobless rate was 10.8. Unemployment during the Great Depression ranged from 25 percent to close to 30 percent.
OBAMA: "This bill does not have a single pet project. Not a single earmark."
FACT: $2 billion for a clean-coal power plant, $10 million for urban canals, $2 billion for manufacturing advanced batteries for hybrid cars, $255 million for a polar icebreaker, $99,600 worth of doorbells in Laurel, MS, $6M to convert hybrids to electric cars in Boulder, CO, $650M more for Digital TV coupons, $70M in smoking cessation programs, $500K for a dog park in Chula Vista, CA, $600M for the Heritage Trail in Natchez, MS, $1.5M for a Prostitute Shelter in Dayton, $500M for Solar Water Heaters in Puerto Rico, $400M for testing and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, $198M for Filipino WWII vets living in the Philippines. Obama is playing with words and taking the American people to be stupid.
OBAMA: "The plan that we've put forward will save or create 3 million to 4 million jobs over the next two years."
FACT: Obama's own economists have said, "It should be understood that that all of the estimates are subject to significant margins of error." Nobody truly knows what will happen, good or bad.
OBAMA: "I've appointed hundreds of people, all of whom are outstanding Americans who are doing a great job. There are a couple who had problems before they came into my administration, in terms of their taxes. ... I made a mistake. ... I don't want to send the signal that there are two sets of rules."
FACT: This one is too easy. Tom Daschle (tax cheat), Tim Geither (tax cheat), William Lynn (lobbyist), Nancy Killefer (tax cheat), Eric Holder (pardons), Carol M. Browner (socialist), Bill Richardson (pay-for-play). Is Obama even paying attention?
There are more, but these are the ones that stood out to me.
Furthermore, on more than one occasion, including last night, Obama has said the federal government is the only thing that can save us. Because Obama is a socialist, I know he believes all of his rhetoric. Yet nowhere in the history of the world can you find one instance where socialism has worked.
This argument that government can create great economies is simply not true. All you have to do is look at how the Soviet Union and East Berlin crumbled. In addition, China is in trouble, while Venezuela and Cuba envy the United States.
There is nothing in this stimulus bill that will help the economy. After seven years of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal, unemployment was still at 15 percent. It just doesn't work. There is no time in history where it has worked.
Where do you think this money the government's going to spend is coming from? Who is it that produces the wealth in this country? It's not the government. All they can do is redistribute money or print it, which will to lead to inflation. Hello Jimmy Carter, Part II.
Government can't get us out of this recession. Obama can't give another speech disguised as a press conference and get it done. It is We The People, God willing, who will eventually get us out of this economic mess.

Schumer: Americans Don't Care About Pork In Stimulus
Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY)
"You lost," Senator Schumer sneered, during debate on the economic stimulus bill. Besides, he taunted, the "American people really don't care" about all those "little tiny, yes, porky amendments" that the Democrats have laced throughout the bill and the"chattering classes" have exposed.
We do care! That's why Americans have bombarded Congress with voicemails and emails, in an attempt to convince members not to pass this stimulus package.
This is typical liberal contempt, self-delusion and arrogance.

Obama Has An Egg of Power in The Oval Office
According to Michele Malkin:"The wooden sculpture that Barack Obama has brought into the Oval Office combines African tribal tradition with a poignant message. Obtained on a 2006 visit to his ancestral Kenya, the "Egg of Power" symbolizes the fragility of chiefly power: According to an ancient proverb, power is like an egg; if it's held too tightly, it breaks, and if it's held too loosely, it will slip from grasp."My question is, why would a man who thinks so little of a human embryo, think so much of a chicken embryo?

Mitt Romney to Obama: You've Got It Wrong
Mitt Romney, during a recent House Republican Conference, said the Obama stimulus bill would stimulate the government, not the economy.
He went on to say giving people permanent tax relief would be better than higher government spending. Romney also noted that business is better than government at creating millions of jobs.
Romney is the former CEO of Bain Capitol, where he helped to create 10,000 jobs and an average annual rate of return of 113 percent on investments.
In addition, Romney turned around the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, which was was running a $379 million deficit before he was put in charge, but saw a profit of $100 million by the end of the Games.
He is also the former governor of Massachusetts, where Romney faced a $3 billion deficit when he took office. By the end of his one and only term, the state had a $700 million surplus.
We are now stuck with an inexperienced President as well as an inept Congress, most whom are career politicians. They want to grow the government and look after self interests, rather than put the people and the country first.

Are You Conservative or Liberal?
History 101
For those that don't know their history, here is a condensed version:
Humans originally existed as members of small bands of nomadic hunters/gatherers. They lived on deer in the mountains during the summer and would go to the coast and live on fish and lobster in the winter.
The two most important events in all of history were the invention of beer and the invention of the wheel. The wheel was invented to get man to the beer. These were the foundation of modern civilization and together were the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into two distinct subgroups:
Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to BBQ at night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as the Conservative movement.
Other men, who were weaker and less skilled at hunting, learned to live off the Conservatives by showing up for the nightly BBQ's and doing the sewing, fetching, and hair dressing. This was the beginning of the Liberal movement.
Some of these Liberal men eventually evolved into women. The rest became known as girlie-men who watch Oprah. Some noteworthy Liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the invention of group therapy, group hugs, and the concept of Democratic voting to decide how to divide the meat and beer that Conservatives provided.
Over the years, Conservatives came to be symbolized by the largest, most powerful land animal on earth, the elephant. Liberals, on the other hand, came to be symbolized by the jackass.
Modern Liberals like imported beer, with lime added. However, most prefer white wine or imported bottled water. They eat raw fish, but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food are standard liberal fare. Another interesting evolutionary side note: most of their women have higher testosterone levels than do their men. Most social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists, dreamers in Hollywood and group therapists are liberals. Liberals invented the designated hitter rule because it wasn't fair to make the pitcher also bat.
Conservatives drink domestic beer, mostly Budweiser. They eat red meat and provide for their women. Conservatives are big-game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumberjacks, construction workers, firemen, medical doctors, police officers, corporate executives, athletes, members of the military, airline pilots and generally anyone who works productively. Conservatives who own companies hire other conservatives who want to work for a living.
Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to govern the producers and decide what to do with the production. Liberals believe Europeans are more enlightened than Americans. That's why most Liberals remained in Europe when Conservatives were coming to America. They crept in after the Wild West was tamed and created a business of trying to get more for nothing.
Here ends today's world history lesson.
Note that a Liberal may have an urge to angrily respond to the above.
A Conservative will laugh and be convinced of the absolute truth of this history. They will immediately let others know about it, including Liberals, just to tick them off.
And there you have it. Let your next action reveal your true self.
