Sigh - Ya know (just me thinking out loud) I wish these guys could pop into the "average man's" shoes for a week. Pay the bills, clean the house, drive to work and all of those other things we all do daily that they have totally lost touch with.
I grew up in a family that "Bought American." I have 3 Fords in the driveway right now, but when my budget is suffering I cut back. Why don't they get that. Ok, it's more complex then just that, but at least look at how it appears to the average Jo who buys Ford or GM.
Sorry for the rant!

Doris - Your rant makes perfect sense and is how most Americans feel. We want to support American companies, but they often make it tough for us to do so.

For example, Because of all the overhead in the form of labor costs, unions, and mismanagement, Ford cuts $2,000 worth of features and quality out of its Taurus, for example, to compete with Toyota’s Avalon.

Of course the Avalon feels like a better product — it has $2,000 more put into it.

Large corporations are essentially like the federal government, they are bureaucratic. This helps to explain why The Big 3 auto makers and the federal government are poorly operated and have such HUGE deficits.

Beautiful. Sums up the whole situation perfectly, doesn't it?
